HCC Core Facilities Spotlight Series: Spatial Technologies Unit (STU) — Sep 29, 2026

The Harvard Cancer Consortium (HCC) Core Facilities are central or “shared” laboratories that provide members with critical services to advance their research. This webinar series will highlight the services offered by HCC Core Facilities and will provide examples of how early career investigators have utilized them to support their research.

Please join us for the launch of the HCC Core Spotlight Series with the Spatial Technologies Unit (STU)!

The STU is a production-grade facility at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center that supports HCC investigators in cutting-edge spatial tissue profiling and single-cell studies by:

  • Providing full-service support (from tissue to complete data analysis) using the latest spatial transcriptomic and proteomic technologies
  • Developing and piloting new spatial assays and technologies
  • Enabling spatial tissue profiling assays to reach patient care
  • Offering hands-on training and education in experimental design, grant writing, and data analysis

Come join STU Director, Ioannis Vlachos, PhD and Scientific Director, Shuoshuo Wang, PhD as they share more about the services provided by the STU and hear use case examples provided by Filipe De Carvlho, MD, PhD and Soravis Alm Ostaphan, MD, MPH.

Presentations

Introduction to the Spatial Technologies Unit Ioannis Vlachos, PhD (Director, STU) and Shuoshuo Wang, PhD (Scientific Director, STU)

"Tumor-myeloid Crosstalk Drives Therapy Resistance in Localized Bladder Cancer" Filipe De Carvalho, MD, PhD (Assistant Professor of Surgery, BWH)

"Distinct Tumor Microenvironment Across Cholangiocarcinoma Anatomical Subtypes" Soravis Alm Osataphan, MD, MPH (Attending Physician in Gastrointestinal Cancer, DFCI/BIDMC; Instructor of Medicine, HMS)
