The overall goal of this SPORE in Leukemia is to improve outcomes for patients with acute leukemia, with a particular focus on acute myeloid leukemia (AML), through improved understanding of disease biology, development of novel drug combinations, and advancing new treatments into early phase trials. The Projects will study the biological and genetic basis for disease states and response to directed therapies in active disease, remission, and relapse, with a particular focus on identifying mechanisms of leukemia sensitivity to therapy and mechanisms of drug resistance that lead to relapsed disease. The proposed studies stem from important discoveries made by long-standing collaborations between the PI’s of the SPORE Projects and each links basic science discoveries with novel clinical interventions.
