I am currently the PI on a Mentored Research Scientist Development Award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (K01 DA027097). The goal of my K01 is to allow me to establish an independent line of research examining the causal mechanisms of addictive behavior in general and smoking in particular. To that end, my training goals include the development of an expertise in health behavior theories and their application to addictive behavior change. In my research project, I will use Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) to study smoking cessation. The study seeks to delineate the temporal ordering of changes in smoking outcome expectancies relative to smoking cessation by collecting fine-grained, real-time data on college student smokers undergoing smoking cessation treatment. As such, my 5-year training and research plan builds upon my statistical training and experience with theory-driven health behavior interventions to enable me to take full advantage of modern technology to delineate the causal mechanisms underlying the process of smoking cessation.
