Research Abstract

My research activities are focused on the development and use of genomic methods to identify actionable genetic alterations in cancer. Particular emphasis is on using an integrated approach in the evaluation of somatic (tumor) and germline (constitutional) genomic data to inform the role of germline alterations and their effect on clinical management of cancer patients. Leveraging tumor-derived signature profiles, we examine the combined effect of somatic tumor as well as germline alterations on cellular pathways and DNA repair mechanisms. We have demonstrated the utility of tumor-derived somatic data in the assessment of pathogenicity of germline variants. I also direct a philanthropically funded genome program focused on the identification of rare and clinically actionable targets in pediatric cohorts. The overall goal is to incorporate comprehensive genomic information into the routine care of pediatric patients.
