I am a clinical and translational investigator with a focus on anticoagulation management in patients with cancer with a high risk of hemorrhagic complications. Over the last several years, I have sought to determine the optimal management strategy for patients with primary and metastatic brain tumors who develop venous thromboembolism (VTE) and patients with cancer who develop VTE in the setting of thrombocytopenia. In addition to this ongoing work, I am currently collaborating with investigators at McMaster University Hospital to develop evidence-based guidelines for diagnostic standards and testing for VTE in patients with cancer.
Clinically, I work as a benign hematologist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. In my clinic, I see patients with a variety of hematologic issues. My inpatient roles include caring for patients on the hematologic malignancies service and providing hematology consultation while overseeing a team of a fellow, residents, interns, and medical students on the hematology consult service. I also oversee the apheresis unit in my role as medical director.
