Research Abstract

The overall goal of my research program is to identify and test novel cancer prevention and interception strategies across the cancer control continuum. My research focuses on two key areas: (1) understanding the impact of energy balance factors on cancer susceptibility, as well as the biologic and etiologic heterogeneity of cancer within cancer types; and (2) cancer early detection. My research program combines elements of traditional epidemiology, behavioral science, and molecular biology, and draws from principles of transdisciplinary science. My research is applicable to many cancer types; however, my recent work has focused primarily in the disease setting of multiple myeloma and related plasma cell disorders. My long-term vision is to create a program of research that ultimately increases the number of tools that clinicians and their patients can use to prevent and reduce excess morbidity and mortality from cancer.
