Deepa Rangachari, MD, FASCO, is a thoracic medical oncologist at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) and medical educator at DFCI and the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), currently an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School (HMS). By leveraging her expertise as a clinician and educator, Dr. Rangachari is committed to leading efforts that optimize the experience of people living with lung cancer and maximize the training and education of current and future generations of the Hematology/Oncology work force.
As a thoracic oncologist, Dr. Rangachari's work has been devoted to translating innovations in biomarkers and therapeutics into pragmatic improvements in patients' outcomes and lived experiences. Specifically, she and her group have been committed to studying ways to optimize sample procurement, molecular testing, and therapeutic applications of predictive biomarkers and immunotherapies in people living with lung cancer to maximize outcomes in real-world settings.
As a medical educator, Dr. Rangachari's work has been focused on scalable impact through educational leadership, goal-concordant mentorship, and curriculum development. She has held numerous leadership roles, including as the Past Chair of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Oncology Training Program Committee, Past Chair of the ASCO Medical Education Community of Practice Mentorship Committee, Alumnus of the ASCO Leadership Development Program: Education Scholars, and Past Faculty of the ASCO Leadership Development Program: Education Scholars. Her efforts span the arc of inquiry and scholarship within medical education, including: 1) conducting local and national needs assessments to define unmet educational needs, 2) leveraging instructional design to create impactful curricula using evidence-based methods, and 3) disseminating findings through national collaborations. Key areas of ongoing inquiry include: medical cannabis use in oncology patients, paradigms for goal-concordant professional development, fellowship training for community-based hematology/oncology careers, and genomic oncology.
