Histologic transformation is a recognized etiology of rapid progression and treatment resistance across cancer. Despite major advances in the treatment of indolent lymphomas, transformation to aggressive lymphoma remains a leading cause of lymphoma-related mortality. However, the biology underlying the transformation of indolent lymphoma remains poorly understood. Our research focuses on the biology of indolent lymphoma transformation, expanding on initial studies of CLL transformation, to identify the molecular basis and defining features of transformation. Our work also seeks to use model systems to understand the basic biology of transformation, interrogate drivers and mechanisms of transformation, and identify therapeutic vulnerabilities of transformed lymphomas. In parallel, the lab has a strong focus in understanding mechanisms of immune evasion and immune response in lymphoma.
In addition to laboratory-based research, Dr. Parry participates in teaching and mentoring of laboratory and clinical trainees at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women's Hospital.
