My research focus is on reproductive behavior, specifically, non-steroidal factors that mediate male reproductive behavior. My hope is that this research will, in the long term be useful in formulating treatments for sexual dysfunction in men. Sexual dysfunction in men may include low libido, erectile dysfunction, and also inappropriate sexual feelings and behaviors (pedophilia etc.). A large and growing group of men that have reported sexual dysfunction is prostate cancer survivors. Detection and treatment of cancer has improved dramatically over the past twenty years, and last year the number of cancer deaths went down. Prostate cancer is one of the leading cancers found in men, and for survivors, a major quality of life concern is sexual health and well being. Despite new radiation and surgical treatments and the introduction of sildenafil, the vast majority of prostate cancer patients report loss of libido, sexual desire, and intimacy. One of the major tasks we still face is to improve quality of life for cancer survivors.
