Research Abstract

Dr. Estrada-Martinez is an Assistant Professor of Urban Public Health in the College of Public and Community Service (CPCS) at the University of Massachusetts Boston. She has substantial interest in developing research expertise in cancer epidemiology, the use of biomarkers across the life-course, and social inequalities and health among immigrant populations. Her research agenda examines the roles of race and socioeconomic status (SES) on the health of immigrants from Latino and Afro-Caribbean nations. Building on the career development plans she has developed for this U54 project, which is led by the Co-PIs Krieger (HSPH) and Siquiera (UMB), Dr. Estrada-Martinez plans to gains skills to examine the biopsychosocial mechanisms by which discrimination and socioeconomic inequalities become embodied affecting the risk for cancer and other chronic diseases among new immigrants.
