Research Abstract

My research integrates trace element chemistry with the biological sciences. Specifically I am interested in studying the relation between trace metals and biominerals such as bone and to the activation of proteins. I bring a transdisciplinary approach to my research which incorporates analytical method development and instrumentation development with expertise in organic and inorganic trace element chemistry. Through the development of analytical techniques such as cryogenic laser ablation ICP-MS my research group focuses on the quantification of metals in tissues and elucidating the relation between changes in metal distribution and the initiation of disease.
