Research Abstract

I am a Physician in Medical Oncology at DFCI, an Associate Physician in Medical Oncology at BWH, and an Instructor in Medicine at HMS. My Area of Excellence is Clinical Expertise and Innovation. I am a clinician focused on bladder and kidney malignancies.

I currently care for patients on the inpatient Medical Oncology service at BWH 5 weeks per year and in clinic at The Lank Center for Genitourinary Oncology at DFCI 4 half-day sessions per week, 45 weeks per year. I am Regional Campus Network Liaison for Genitourinary Oncology at DFCI. I am a member of the United Programs of Geriatric Oncology Team at DFCI and the Committee for Women Faculty at DFCI. I served as the Conference Organizer for the Envisioning Comprehensive Geriatric Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Symposium in 2023.

Prior to my arrival at DFCI, I was the Junior Faculty Lead of the Genitourinary (GU) Medical Oncology Program and Research Head of Renal Cell Cancer Clinical Trials at CBCC, LUMC. Before entering medical school, I was a research associate at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in Miami, FL and I later attended the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, FL. I completed my residency training with a year serving as chief resident at University of IllinoisChicago 2015. I completed my hematology oncology fellowship and was chief fellow during my last year at LUMC in 2018. I was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine faculty from 2018-2022.

As a clinician scientist,. my aim is to be at the forefront of translating basic science research to better understand the pathogenesis of cancer development, participate in novel gene discovery and identify potential molecular therapeutic targets for future cancer treatment. II am interested in older adult oncology: investigating toxicities, incorporating personalized medicine (geriatric assessments) and understanding treatment paradigms for my GU patients. My past and present scientific research experience is broad: ranging from basic laboratory research, retrospective analyses, quality improvement, and clinical trial development, and I was awarded two training grants during my first two years as faculty at Loyola. I served as the principal clinical investigator on several national and industry sponsored clinical trials. I have demonstrated my ability to propose relevant clinical research questions, present my findings at national conferences, collaborate with clinicians and basic science researchers, publish several abstracts and manuscripts, and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows.

I am an active member of the Alliance(Alliance. I serve as Executive Officer for the ACTO GU, ET/RT and AFT GU, ET/RT scientific committees. My main duties are to collaborate with the scientific committee chair in managing the committee’s scientific portfolio while providing operational perspective on concepts and protocols in development. I serve as the main liaison to other ACTO or AFT scientific resource/modality committees, other cooperative groups (SWOG, ECOG, NRG, CCTG), and the pharmaceutical industry. As a member of the senior leadership team for the ACTO and AFT central protocol operations, I provide essential input in all committee protocol development with issues requiring scientific and medical expertise and review appropriateness of eligibility, assist with the determination of what is standard of care and what may require additional funding, review dose modification section for clarity, accuracy, and consistency with other Alliance protocols. I provide content for study chairs and assist with grant submissions, as appropriate, particularly those that support protocol conduct. Furthermore, I collaborate with ACTO and AFT study chairs, committee chairs, protocol coordinators and statisticians to ensure consistency across protocols. Lastly, I respond to eligibility, treatment, and dose modification-related queries from participating institutions in the absence of study chair/co-chairs.

I currently supervise residents and PAs on the inpatient Medical Oncology service at BWH 5 hours per day, 7 days per week, 5 weeks per year and medical students and residents at The Lank Center for Genitourinary Oncology one half-day session per month. I am invited to present locally to peers and trainees, most recently through the DFCI Collaborative Network GU Meeting.
