Research Abstract

My laboratory uses the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae to understand basic aspects of cell biology. We are interested in understanding how cell shape and architecture are regulated. The research in my lab focuses on the process of sporulation, which is the yeast cell’s version of gametogenesis and involves meiosis followed by spore morphogenesis. Research projects in the lab include studies on how the PH-domain containing protein Spo71 regulates membrane shape and size and how the MAP kinase Smk1 and the PAK-family GCKIII kinase Sps1 regulate spore morphogenesis.
