The objectives of the Developmental Research Program (DRP) are to provide a continuous flow of new ideas and to seed projects that will stimulate innovative myeloid leukemia research in the context of the HCC SPORE in Leukemia. Leadership of the DRP by Drs. Lane and Stone, who are also leading this SPORE, facilitates the most efficient consideration of elevation for developmental projects to full project status, either as a replacement for an underperforming project in the current SPORE or in a future renewal application. The DRP will encourage new research directions and help to facilitate collaborations. It will provide initial support to pilot projects and thus will foster the development of new translational projects, an important goal given the circuitous path to clinical development of agents that might be effective in myeloid leukemias. It will provide the opportunity for the HCC SPORE in Leukemia to recruit new investigators with a range of backgrounds and institutional affiliations.
